So Cupcake Mummy tagged me

Wow, my friend Cupcake Mummy tagged me in a post ages ago and due to my sloth like holiday period I took I haven’t done anything about it.  The post was “a blog award from your peers for being awesome”.  Let me first just put this out there and clarify that I DO NOT by any means see myself as a BLOGGER.  This to me is my “silly little blog” (as I affectionately like to refer to it) that allows me to share, vent, brag and feel part of the social media buzz that I so love.  Having said that, even though I am sure Cupcake Mummy had run out of people who hadn’t been tagged yet, I am taking this challenge/award and claiming it.   So here goes:

What are you working on right now?

Today being my second day back at my paying job, I have a few queries to sort out that cropped up during our annual shutdown.  On the personal side… my mind is exploding with ideas for the year. Planning Mili-Flyn’s 3rd birthday party (yes, I know it is in May but I need to get a Pinterest board going), a tweet up that Cupcake Mummy and I are planning and a facelift for this silly little blog.

Where did the idea for Love, Kids and Other Things?

When we moved to Cape-Town and I met my crazy friend Liesl we decided to do a Challenge that would get you running 5km’s in a couple of weeks.  She suggested we start a blog about it to keep us motivated.  Needless to say the Challenge fell by the wayside (we put full blame on her sister visiting from New Zealand for a month) but I so enjoyed the blogging part of it I decided to set up my own silly little blog.

What does your typical day look like?

My daily routine has changed slightly since my house husband as joined the rat race again.  Wake-up at 5:30, COFFEE!!  Between the husband and I we sort out school lunches and our own lunches.  Move kids from beds to couch, serve them with breakfast, present Master Caleb with his school clothes.  Get dressed and ready for work. Off to work…blah, blah, blah.  Home at 4:30pm. I picked the short straw and get tasked with helping with homework, husband makes dinner.  Chilling on the couch watch TV or catching up on series.  (I do bath etc but didn’t want to bore you with those mundane details)

How do you bring ideas to life?

*scratches head* not too sure I get this one… but I have 4 kids, which were ideas, sure you don’t need me to explain how I brought them to life?  Okay, 2 were ideas and 2 were pleasant surprises.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

Definitely not the flower garland fashion trend!

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

Worst job wasn’t even that bad, Debtors.  If we talking Worst Boss, I win hands down.  Ironically it was the best job, marketing and event planning but working for the Knob was no fun.  What I did learn was:

1.      Money can’t buy you happiness or a personality

2.     Accountants have no people skills

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

Not sure I would too much differently.  Every decision made has led me to the point I am at now, which after a tough 2013 is looking sunny and bright.  I might have taken a few more risks.  I am a nerd at heart and often over think things.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be and how would you go about it?

So many causes that I could spend days on this but child abuse has to be the thing for me.  How sick has our world become that people rape innocent babies. So I reckon castrate all the sicko’s who do these acts and troll the internet and thrive on child porn.

Tell us a secret.

Can’t.  Already signed a billion dollar deal for my TELL ALL life story. Would just ruin it for everyone if I started spilling the beans now… Also would affect my book sales.

What are your three favorite online tools or resources and what do you love about them?

What is the one book that you recommend people should read and why?

Firstly I am not one for the “self-help” type books.  The husband has a whole shelf reserved for that kind of stuff.  I am pretty much a fiction type girl and a closet romantic as I pointed out to a friend earlier.  Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden has always been the book that has stuck for me.

Three people we should follow on Twitter and why?

@zombie_phil – man has a wicked sense of humour and says it like it is

@elana_bailey – just follow her, you will soon see why

@KAmuses – anyone who wants be to pack up one of my kids and send them to them is worth a follow.   She also happens to be the lovely lady in the life of one of my best people.  Did I mention is also smart and tweets some cool stuff?

When was the last time you laughed out loud? What caused it?

The things that come out of the mouths of our Tribe are a constant source of laughter and entertainment.  We were recently at the cricket with some mates, Caleb was on the hunt for autographs, Ev told him to stand at the fence and shout at the players when they walked out.  He response was he didnt want to look like a DOOS.  That is when you know you have succeeded as a parent and all parenting awards are bestowed upon you.  Needless to say we told not to use that word and he skulked off, we were all in fits of laughter.

Who is your hero?

Would have to be my Tribe of 4.  If I ever have days were I feel just plain kak, I look at those 4 crazy kids and realise I did something right.

Bloggers who you would like to take part?

As Cupcake Mummy mentioned most of the bloggers had already been tagged.  These might not be Mommy Bloggers but I think they pretty neat.

Cindy Alfino –  She has nearly as many kids as I do and still manages to blog OFTEN, work, run a household and be a super cool Mom.

Elana Bailey –  she is like the Guru of skincare etc. Her  blog has awesome skincare, make-up tips.  Check it out.

Hans De Ridder – this mate of ours has become a cycling machine and has enter his first ever ABSA Cape Epic.  Did I mention he was single?

Not surprising at all that you were nominated! Must have missed that post. They go through fazes where they do and don’t think we are cool. Yours are so close together they probably all share similar fazes. With my 4 having the 5 year gap, I am in all fazes of parenting and coolness at all times!
