Right about now feat Feel Good Friday

Love, Kids and Other Things

Tribelet’s – Tayla has finished her last exams and second year varsity is done and dusted.  She is one step closer to becoming a Speech and Language Therapist.  Also, soon to be celebrating her 21st in February.  Not sure how that happened. How did 21 years just race by?

Ella-Blu is in study mode as she writes her year end exams for Grade 8.  She continues to amaze me with her dedication and commitment.  She attends extra lessons for Maths and Afrikaans, with some of those being at 6:30am.  Never a moan from her, she gets it done.  Her Maths has improved so much but the Afrikaans still seems to be a challenge.  Don’t get me started on the fact that our children still need to be taught Afrikaans.

Caleb is all about the sport.  After the RWC the rugby ball has been shelved and the cricket kit is out in full force.

Mili-Flyn continues to obsessed with wearing dresses, especially the fancy type.  I did wish for 1 of the 3 girls to be somewhat girly and it seems  my wish was granted with this character.

Camping – I am happy to report that the camping trip was a huge success and I would definately go again (blog post to follow about the trip).

December – We are all doing the great trek up to Jozi in December to send time with Evert’s family.  This will involve camping, lots of the Afrikaans language, hours of driving and time spent in the car but on the upside I get to see my bestie.

Work – This has been a testing year on the work front but having said that also a very satisfying one.  It has required me to step up to the plate and reaffirmed skills that I had not used in ages.  I am working with an incredible “All Chick” team, which I must admit I was trying really hard to avoid.  I do believe women can do anything that men can, but do I really want to change a tyre and get all greasy? I think not.  So while I am not the first to burn my bra and I feel more comfortable with the opposite sex, I can state that I have stumbled onto a winning combination of estrogen.  Our office is currently a hub of Christmas activity.  A little early, I know, but with most of us going on leave from the start of December we are cashing in on the Christmas spirit.

Pug Life – Our adorable pug Cooper turns 1 on 26 November.  Thinking of baking a “pug friendly” cake for him but we all know my skills do not lie in the kitchen.  So perhaps Tayla will take up this challenge.

Cuteness overload

Cuteness overload

What’s on the box – My current viewing pleasure has to be Blindspot.  Besides the intriguing story line, Sullivan Stapleton is also very easy on the eye.

This World – While I was saddened and shocked by the events in Paris over the week-end, I just can’t bring myself to follow the masses and add the French flag to my profile picture.  This is not because I don’t care, it is that I care about so much more. There were the bombings in Beirut which seemed to go unnoticed, our community has recently experienced unrest in Masimasiphumelele, human trafficking is on a steady rise, the nearly 300 Nigerian school girls that where kidnapped in April are still missing.  Then there is Syria.  The list is endless.  So while I read silly comments on Facebook where narrow-minded people state they will not pray for Paris but instead only African countries, there is tiny glimmer of hope. I realise I have great friends who choose to not singling out an event to pray for and support, they instead choose to support the Human Race.  This is my choice.  Irrespective of colour, creed or continent we need to praying for this.  So when there is a profile picture/banner that supports this, I will put it up. *climbs off my soapbox*

Today’s Feel Good Friday is a tune that has my office and household not only tapping their feet but singing along.  Enjoy it!

Tribelet’s – Tayla is a rare sight at the moment.  Second year has already started on a new level with clinic and hospital visits for her.  She is so excited about being given her own person to work with for 6 months.  Luckily my office is close to her res, so she does pop in on a weekly basis to say HI (and drop off her washing).

Ella-Blu has taken to High School like a duck to water.  She auditioned and got the gig to be the mascot at the rugby games.  She amazes me with her zest and ability to immerse herself 100% into whatever she takes on.  I thought the step from tomboy to girl would be a slow process but it seems to be speeding up.  She has requested we go shopping for make-up and has a date for the Valentines dance on Friday.  Flip, not sure I was ready for that.

Caleb is having his first year in a co-ed class.  At Sun Valley Primary for Grade 1 and Grade 2, there are 2 boys only and 2 girls only classes.  I was wondering how he would cope but having 3 sisters I doubted it would be a problem.  I got home from work last week and was met by the gate by a very excited 8 year old.  He had decided he wanted to take a Valentines gift to school on Friday.  So I suggested some flowers from the garden, only to be told the girl in question was allergic to pollen.  I was impressed he even knew this.  I asked how he met her and it turned out she sits at his table with him.  So he didn’t look too far.  So cute though.  The outcome is that he will make a paper heart and stick it to a Fizz Pop, all his own idea.

Mili-Flyn is very happy with herself as she no longer needs her armbands, she is now swimming like a big girl.  With her birthday being in May I start thinking of party themes now and then make a Pinterest board, everyone does that, right?  This year no amount of bribery could persuade her to change her mind on the theme.  So a FROZEN party it is.

Life – The husband has been traveling, which sucks. Single parenting sucks.  If I ever had my doubts about how much I love having him around and what value he adds, that has all been put to rest.  Come home already, please. The Tribelet’s can only eat hot dogs for so long.

Work – The status on this will always be CRAZY BUSY, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  We have so many exciting projects we are working on that my juggling skills are being tested daily. If anyone is taking part in the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, please pop past our stand (Sports Science Institute of South Africa) and say “HI”.  We have such great activation’s planned with interesting speakers.  Will keep the runners posted on that!

Pug Life – Cooper has slotted right into the madness that is the Ferreira family.  I forgot that having a puppy is technically like having another child.  During the morning mania at home, he adds to the drama by generally wrestling with any item of clothing anyone is trying to put on.  Cooper also has mad skills, he has managed to set up his own IG account: Cooper_thepug, go and check it out.

ICC Cricket World Cup – I feel like my love for cricket and the Protea’s could be likened to that of an abused woman.  I have such passion for South African and for cricket but when thinking back on the previous World Cup’s I feel let down.  Yet we go back for more.  I am hoping that this time will be different.  I am hoping we don’t, dare I say it, choke?  I am hoping the boy’s do us proud and bring that damn trophy home.  I am also hoping I cope with the lack of sleep I will be enduring, those games are so early. Good luck to Protea’s who play their opening game against Zimbabwe on Sunday.  May the Protea Fire burn bright, strong and LONG.

Tribelet’s – Yayness, Mili-Flyn went back to school yesterday.  Mili-Flyn battled to grasp the concept of holidays.  I think with her school literally being across the road of us, she couldn’t understand why she could see it but couldn’t go and play.  So getting her back to school has been a breeze.  She was packed and ready on Sunday afternoon and there were no tears yesterday, just pure excitement.  It does make things easier as parent when your child is so happy to head off to school.  Nothing worse then the parent guilt you suffer when leaving a “sad panda’ of a child crying at school.

Ella-Blu has been earning some extra pocket money by taking care of the guinea pigs at Mili-Flyn’s school over the holidays. I am so impressed at how responsible she is.  Doesn’t want any help in preparing the fresh food every evening.  She has even managed to rope Dad in to assist with watering the schools garden.

Ella-Blu and Caleb head back to school next week Wednesday.  I am mentally preparing myself for the all the books I will need to cover, stationery I will need to mark and forms I will need to fill out *sigh*.

Work – I have been back at work for a week now and things are starting to kick into high gear.  I am glad I had last week to settle in, get the diary filled out and ease back into things.  We have so many great projects planned for 2015 that I am not suffering from any “blues” having returned to work.

Series – How is it possible that non of you have suggested The Wire to me before?  I received all 5 seasons of it and that is pretty much what we have been up too when not lazing around the pool.

Pug Life – Finally the day dawned on Saturday for the arrival of our newest family member.  Cooper is now officially a member of the crazy Tribe of mine.  The cuteness factor in my house is now indescribable.  Between the cute Cooper and the Tribelet’s I am smiling for days.

Tribelets – **queue proud Mommy punt** This bunch has been keeping me busy lately.  Tayla passed her first year at Varsity.  So next year we have a second year student on our hands.  Ella-Blu received the Best Girl Football Player award, Academic Progress and a special award from the Principal.  A big step for our tomboy who  was wearing a dress to the Valedictory Assembly and might I add she looked beautiful.  Caleb also received an academic award at his prize giving and our Mili-Flyn was just the sweetest fairy you have ever seen at her concert. It suddenly hit me that next year our Tribelets are spread through all sectors of education. Varsity, High School, Primary School and Play School.  Well planned? Not sure about that.

Pug Life – We have settled on a name for our newest family member.  After much debate and an ever changing list of names, our new boy is called Cooper.  He arrives 10 January and we are all so excited.  All, except for Mili-Flyn.  When I show her a photo of him she says he looks “scary”and will just stick to Snowy. The girls are going shopping to make sure he has all he needs when he gets here.  I have no doubt they will bring home an “outfit” for Cooper.  Every pug deserves an outfit, right?

Holidays –  My holiday officially starts on Friday at 1pm.  So close, I can smell it. We have decided to “barricade” ourselves in around the pool area these holidays.  Sending someone out every couple of days to get fresh supplies.

In love with Ed – Gosh, this Ginga boy is really something else.  If you haven’t seen the latest Ed Sheeran video take look below.  Not only are the lyrics to Thinking Out Loud, beautiful, the video is a goodie. Enjoy!

Right About Now

The lovely Cindy from 3 Kids, 2 Dogs, 1 Old House has this cool post she often does, called Currently. Love the idea of getting all the latest happenings in your life down in one blog post.  So I introduce to you…. Right About Now!

Love, Kids and Other Things

Tribelets – This is a super busy time for us. Over the next 10 days we have: Ella-Blu’s Sports Awards, Mili-Flyn’s Christmas Concert, Caleb’s Prize giving and Ella-Blu’s Valedictory Evening. Sjoe, wish me luck.  Tayla then heads off to East-London for 10 days and brings my Mom back to spend Christmas with us.  Fun times.

Work – Our Marketing Admin Assistant resigned and I suppose there is never an ideal time for someone to resign!  This however has proved to be challenging.  Besides planning for 2015 which is still ongoing, we have been interviewing to get the position filled and all scrambling to cover tasks of our team member we are short of.  Life throws you these little curve balls and it is always interesting to see how people handle them.  For me it is just confirmation that the glass of bubbles at the end of the day is truly well deserved.

My Other Half – This is a proud wife punt.  After having worked at his present company for less than a year, he has been offered other portfolio’s to handle.  This is a massive but in all fairness he has worked like a Trojan this year.  Things are finally falling into place there and after a really rocky road of self employment, he is back in the saddle.

Holidays – I go on leave 19 December and can’t wait too just CHILL!  This seems to have been a crazy busy year but for all the right reasons.  Quality time with the Tribelet’s is on the cards, as well as a couple of cool adventures.

Frustration – Damn you Skype! My Skype has been down for around 3 weeks now.  At first I was online but non of my contacts were…EVER.  Which is impossible.  Now I can’t even log in.  Our IT guy has tried a few tricks by re installing and doing some other nerd stuff but sadly, no luck.

“Book Club” – We have something really special on the go here.  A bunch of  6 amazing women, all very different but that manage to make this monthly event work.  We had our annual Christmas Party at our place on Friday evening.  The only time we let our partners join us.  As always this was a real jol.  Violent Femmes being blasted out to the max and the last of the bunching leaving at 2am.

Annual Family gathering of the Cousins – With our family originally being from Slummies it makes family gatherings challenging. Lucky for me though 2 of my cousins followed suit to Cape-Town soon after I did.  These boys live in the Boerie Curtain though (which is miles away from Hippie Valley).  So I don’t get to see them as often as I would like too.  Last year we had our first pre Christmas gathering and it was such a great day spent together.  So re are having a round 2 this year.  Unfortunately my Sister and Tayla will both be in East London, so not quiet a full house this year.

Currently watching – (this little insert is “borrowed” from Cindy’s Currently updates.  So someone who loves Series as much as I do, I couldn’t not add it) TV wise I am watching Chicago Fire, Criminal Minds, CSI, Homelands and The Blacklist.  I must be honest, I am not feeling this 2nd season of The Blacklist.  Then we move onto Reality TV.  I am a real sucker for this and finally after watching 20 seasons of the Bachelor I have weened myself off that one.  I am loving the local Masterchef and rooting for Sipho.  The Voice has to be my ultimate though.  Such a great mix of judges and my fave contestant Matt McAndrew is still in the mix.

So Right about now that is what is happening in the life of Nikki!
